Conveniently located 7 miles south of Waynesville and 8 miles north of
Sylva.
From Asheville: From Jct
of I-40 and US 74W/23S (take Exit 27). Go south 12 miles on 74W/23S. One Half mile
past Entrance of Blue Ridge Parkway and underneath the overpass make the first left onto
Candlestick Road. Look for the "Balsam" highway directional sign which also
directs you left onto Candlestick Road. Go 50 yards and turn right, go up the hill, cross
the RR tracks, and then go past the Balsam Post Office on the left. Continue down this
road about 300 yards and at the fork in the road STAY RIGHT or STRAIGHT. The road will
then turn hard right just as you cross the RR Tracks in front of Balsam Mountain Inn.
Follow this road a little less than 1 1/2 miles as it winds down the hill. A few sharp
turns on a well maintained two lane road and you will see Moonshine Creek Campground on
your left.
From Cherokee: Go S on US 441, Go NE on
US74/US23 to "Balsam" highway directional sign which also also
directs you right onto Candlestick Road. Go 50 yards and turn right, go up the hill, cross
the RR tracks, and then go past the Balsam Post Office on the left. Continue down this
road about 300 yards and at the fork in the road STAY RIGHT or STRAIGHT. The road will
then turn hard right just as you cross the RR Tracks in front of Balsam Mountain Inn.
